Location: Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (KRI), with frequent travel to project sites across Kurdistan

Type of position: Employment Contract, Full-time

Position Status : National

Length of Contract: 12 Months

Role of the Translator/Interpreter (English - Sorani):

The Translator/Interpreter will be responsible for providing high quality translation and interpretation support across various organizational communication materials which involves translating written and oral communication into a clear, accurate and grammatical correct language. The role also provides simultaneous and consecutive interpretations for meetings, training sessions and events.   

In addition, the translator/Interpreter will also ensure all translated materials are thoroughly proofread, edited and finalized to meet professional standards. Also, this role entails providing administrative support such as archiving, filing, printing and scanning for Programs team and other team members, as assigned.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and translate written and oral communications for formal letters, PR materials, social media posts, and other communications pieces.
  • Translate program documents (operational and technical), as assigned.
  • Provide documents in correct grammatical format as a well-expressed final version of the translated text, usually as a word-processed document.
  • Provide simultaneous and consecutive translation/interpretation support for training courses, meetings, and events.
  • Proofread, edit, and revise translated materials.
  • Provide administrative (archiving, filing, printing, scanning etc.) support to the Program Officers, and others as assigned.


Essential Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English Language or another relevant area.
  • At least three years relevant experience; international NGO or interpretation in a training/classroom setting, a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and writing language abilities in English, and Kurdish Sorani.
  • Experience working with simultaneous interpretation equipment.
  • Knowledge of technical terms within the field of mental health and psychosocial support services (MHPSS) or humanitarian work, a plus.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work to meet deadlines .
  • Willingness to work under pressure.
