Role of the MEAL Assistant: The MEAL Assistant will be part of the MEAL Unit, providing assistance in All MEAL related activities including conducting field monitoring visits, monitor feedback and complaints boxes, and ensure the visibility of accountability and safeguarding materials at SEED sites and activities, data monitoring, and data management for SEED Programs. She/he will be responsible for all MEAL processes and activities required to improve program quality. She/he will ensure comprehensive data collection in accordance with SEED’s MEAL systems and policies and assist in ensuring data is incorporated into SEED’s interventions through timely feedback and reporting loops.
The MEAL Assistant will be reporting to the Senior MEAL Officer in HQ and support the MEAL team and program teams to ensure the systems are working effectively.
Specific Tasks:
- Conduct regular field monitoring visits, including checking feedback and complaints boxes at SEED centers and implementation sites.
- Gathering complaint boxes biweekly and ensuring accountability and safeguarding materials are clearly visible during activities.
- Monitor project activities to ensure quality interventions and adherence to minimum standards; compile and report on monitoring data.
- Support program teams in collection and recording of service delivery-related information/data.
- Ensure that forms are duly and timely completed and submitted by service providers.
- Ensure quality preparation of program reports/documents.
- Ensure that all clients receiving cash assistance are verified and recorded in the cash tracking system.
- Ensure the confidentiality of data is respected, and this information is not shared with any irrelevant staff members or external persons/ organizations.
- Conduct every 3 months MEAL verification of quality services.
- Ensure appropriate and consistent implementation of the monitoring plans and tools and to support the program managers in the review/revision of it when necessary.
- Track and monitor outputs and expected results of ongoing projects and the extent of completion of various activities and present findings to the management.
- Support service providers and coordinators in monthly data collection and recording of service delivery-related information/data.
- Assist Senior MEAL Officer in facilitation of MEAL training and ongoing CommCare coaching sessions for service providers.
- Work closely with MEAL and the program team to ensure discrepancies in data are identified and resolved.
- Enter, clean, and organize both quantitative and qualitative data; compose reports summarizing results.
- Facilitate and/or provide translation and record-keeping during focus group discussions and other meetings with beneficiaries, or others.
- Perform other duties as necessary, as assigned by the supervisor.
Essential Criteria:
- University degree in software engineering, statistics, management, or other relevant degree.
- Two years of experience in MEAL or data management and NGOs work.
- Understanding of accountability mechanisms, including feedback and complaints handling systems.
- Experience with quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, including surveys, FGDs, and KIIs.
- Proficiency in data management and analysis tools such as Excel, Google Forms, or similar platforms.
- Strong skills in data entry, data cleaning, verification, and reporting.
- Ability to conduct field monitoring visits and support data quality assurance processes.
- Commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality, and humanitarian principles.
- Strong belief in human rights and gender equality.
- Ability to work independently, including the ability to multitask, prioritize competing tasks, and manage time effectively.
- High standard of spoken and written Kurdish (Sorani dialect), English; and/or Arabic a plus.
